the new library of birmingham
Libraries have traditionally been depositories for information, mainly in paper form of what kind or another. The digital age has posed new challenges for the role of public libraries.
Consultations with a wide range of people are going on to inform how the new Library of Birmingham should be. Some of the interesting work being considered as part of this consultation process includes The Flemish Digital Library Strategy and Rob Bruijnzeels' article on Libraries 2040 in the Scandinavian Public Library Quarterly.
The architect's plans for the £193M new Library of Birmingham, to be the biggest lending library in the UK, were unveiled on 2nd April 2009. For the Birmingham Post's response, read here; for the BBC's here; the Guardian's here.
